Harassing your social media harasser!

About a month ago a person started sending me inappropriate e-mails and posting lewd comments and messages on my Facebook... and Google Plus pages. I’ve tried blocking the person and telling them to stop, but he or she keeps changing their email address and user profile and keeps coming back. I don’t even want to look at my phone or computer anymore. Is there anything I can do?

According to the crime statistics recorded by the South African Police Service (SAPS) and recently released by the Minister of... Police, it is still the unfortunate truth that up to 65% of violent crimes such as assault, murder and rape occur between people who know each other, often within the privacy of their homes where policing is restricted to only reported cases by the victims of such crimes. Crimes of this nature committed by people who are related to each other or who are in an intimate relationship fall within the category called “domestic violence”. The victims of these crimes are protected, provided they seek the necessary help.

More protection for the victims of harassment

The Protection from Harassment Act 17 of 2011 came into operation on 27 April 2013, and provides specific legislative protection... for persons who are the victims of harassment. This legislation provides a complainant with the ability to obtain a protection order and a warrant of arrest which can be enforced in the event of the unwanted conduct continuing.
